Bio

Madeline Barr has devoted her entire life to the world of theatre and film. She began acting at age eight, and soon after was accepted in to Denver School of the Arts as a theatre major where she studied from 6th-12th grade, before going on to graduate from the Experimental Theatre Wing at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Since then she has thrived in the developmental world of new theatre and film- finding joy and exhilaration in the rehearsal process, discovering new work, devising a piece from the ground up, working closely with artistic collaborators and wearing multiple hats- not only acting, but writing, directing, and producing.

Some of her most proud accomplishments have been the development of her play “Three”, a text collage examining trios of sisters throughout time from King Lear’s daughters, Macbeth’s witches, Chekov’s three sisters, To Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim. Three went on to win a grant from the NY Society Library and was developed alongside her longtime collaborators Allison Taaffe and Julia Blauvelt as well as Stephen Spinella. She also helped to devise a touring production of “Night Witches” a new play about the first all-female fighter pilot troupe to fight in combat. She also helped to devise and acted in Richard Schechner’s latest piece, “Imagining ‘O’”, workshopped a new Tony Kushner play at The Public entitled “Stella”, and she won several awards for her acting work in the film “Falling South”.

When Madeline is not acting, writing, or directing, she works as an educator. During the pandemic, she taught theatre at Denver School of the Arts and directed a play in their black box series. She is also a certified yoga instructor.

Madeline often works with The Tank, EST’s Youngblood, and The Farm Theatre. Madeline is a proud member of LAByrinth Theatre Company.
